Programs
Programs that bring generations together.
Friendship, celebration and pastoral care for Jewish seniors, delivered with volunteers of every age.

One-on-One volunteer program
The Grandfriend program.
Volunteers forge genuine friendships with seniors in our community. We thoughtfully pair volunteers (18+) with seniors who share common interests, so authentic connections can flourish through regular visits and shared activities.
One-on-one volunteers commit to visiting their senior weekly or fortnightly for six months.

Intergenerational and Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Students and seniors, side by side.
Our intergenerational programs connect students aged 12–18 with seniors through interviews, artistic collaborations and musical experiences. Research shows these interactions can significantly enhance seniors’ wellbeing and help combat cognitive and physical decline.
Bar and Bat Mitzvah aged children create Shabbat packages and personalised cards, and visit the seniors to talk about the significance of this milestone across generations.

Shabbat Hug
The Packing Bee.
Volunteers come together to assemble over 250 “Shabbat Hugs” packages for seniors across 25 residential facilities. Each one contains personalised cards, chocolates and challah.
When our seniors receive their Shabbat Hug, their faces light up. These small gestures remind them that they are cherished members of our community. The program is also offered to school groups, youth movements and Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrants.

Family Support Group
No one should go through it alone.
Caring for ageing parents, or coping with their passing, can be one of life’s most emotional journeys. Our Family Support Group, run in partnership with Hatzolah, offers a safe, welcoming space for family members to share experiences, listen and connect with others who truly understand.

Day Centre and Smiles Hub
An afternoon to look forward to.
Our Day Centre invites senior members of our community to our premises for an enjoyable afternoon: afternoon tea, music, speakers, entertainment and a chance to shmooze and meet new friendly faces.
Safe for everyone.
At Smile on Seniors we take child protection very seriously. Read our policy before volunteering with children or students.
